  The log book 2005
  Year: 2005 | 2004 | 2003 | 2002 | 2001 | 2000 | 1999 | 1998

April 2005
The island has now awakened and the snowdrifts have reluctantly receded. The big landing stage receives a much needed renovation. I walk along the beach and the unusually low water level uncovers rocks that you normally don't see. Outside, cold is comming from the sea. The characteristic song from long-tailed ducks can be heard far and wide. Geese and wild ducks are swimming in pairs. The sun has attracted a brimstone butterfly.

March 2005
The first month of spring started out cold and snowy, the ice formed late. But sunny days make skating tempting! I cannot resist sticking lettuce and tomato seeds in pots despite the snow still being on the window ledges. Last year I planted seeds in the garden by this time of the year.

February 2005
The storm stirred our brick roofs and we had to do without electricity and telephone. The order has been restored but we have no ice or snow yet. The sea is open. The senses are our individual antennae. Some of us prefer to see the ocean every day, see its colour, hear the waves' collected force and motion, smell the seaweed and imagine the saltness of the water.

January 2005
With the cabin smelling like sweet gingerbread biscuits and spices from our mulled wine, we yearn for longer days. At dawn the light slowly rises from the sea. It is a real sight to behold as the sunrays climb over the cliffs of Långskär. There is often a bank of clouds sweeping in right before the sun rises over Laskär, but the next morning I'm back looking out over the ocean. The chores immediately feels easier with the warmth of the sun. I'll walk a round checking on the boats and boathouses.
