The day spreads its pale light. The weather now changes from windy to calm days. Wild ducks, goosanders, tufted ducks and long-tailed ducks lies silently behind points and in the bays. The water is warm. Elof is still fishing for pike and salmon. With a net of course, but the occasional pike has bit when using the casting rod. I hear a rumbling sound from the east, look outwards at Långskär and see the breakers roll in. The cliffs shine in the drizzle.

Mist and fog, rain, also darkness morning and night. But also quiet and peaceful and the occasional sunny day. It is simply November. The clock is set on normal time and Elof doesn't get up until 4. Det är november helt enkelt. Klockan är ställd på vintertid och Elof går inte upp förrän 4.

It is now autumn according to the calendar but because of the warm weather nature is in disorder. Tagetes and cress blooms and so does bluebells, strawberries and cowslips. The eel fishing is over for the season and the fyke net has been taken out of the water. The salmon have arrived in large numbers and the occasional pike is also caught in the nets.

Thank you for this summer! Our conferance guests have now returned home and we are back after a week of holliday on the mainland. There is still a chance of nice days in the archipelago and the occasional conferance guest appear. The eel fishing is at an end and the fishing tools will soon be recovered.

Summer now enters a calmer stage, the heavy rains of July have passed and the sea finally offers an acceptable tempreature for swimming. The small museum of the island has had a large number of visitors during the season. We now prepare for accepting conferance guests during August and September.

Summer has arrived early this year. Everything is blooming earlier than usual and the smell of lilac is present at every house. Around the rocky islets the young eiders are like small balls of down around the female eiders who carefully watches all the gulls in sight. In the harbour the landing stages are buisy during the weekends. The fishing for pike has gone well for some, others will have to try again.

Beautiful may is welcome. The spring sun is shining and herring and pikes have arrived in great numbers. Elof is planting herring drift-nets and smoking smoked herring. At the boathouse in the harbour we have put new oakplanks on the landing stages. The boats are starting to be put in the sea and during the Walpurgis weekend we were visited by several boats in the harbour.

Spring is here! The female eiders have gone ashore to lay their eggs. The male eiders are laying in groups outside, geese and swans are getting ready. Large-scale fishing for pike will have to wait, the water temperature must be higher. But a hot sunny day can lure a pike full of roe into a shallow creek to spawn. The we have a go, a pike with horseradish sauce would be tasty.

Now the long-tailed ducks and eiders have arrived. It is fascinating to hear their song from the sea. Even common gulls have arrived and circle over the harbour. They are surely looking to see if Elof has gutted any fish. He has caught some salmon and a seal visited his net. He saw six grey seals a few days ago at "Biskär" strait.

I now trade the warmth of the cabin for fresh wind heading towards "flisfjärden" bay. I see the pinetrees along the rocky islets. The twisted brances would be useful for wrapping the hull of a small boat. In former days they did the most varying taks here. Much of what was needed was present right here, lumber, birds, fish. Thoughtful I return back to my computer. The ice is now thick in the harbour and all the way to Gråskär.

The New Year was greeted with a big fire high up on the hill at the harbour. A tasty buffé at restaurant Loftet and champagne in the snowfall. Now when brighter times are comming Elof is fishing for pike and perch for the spring's conferances and groups. Perch fillet with chantarelle sauce and oven baked pike with cream sauce is sure tasty after the sea trip or the day's work. Still no ice in sight.
